Great way to guide kids into more difficult words. As a 1st grade teacher, these books are indispensable for my emerging readers who still need a short, quickie book that allows them to focus their skills on basic decoding and sight words. The pictures are a delight and the kids feel very comfortable with these.
And voila -- at age 5, they started reading "regular" books. I used bob books to teach my kids to read. I have a friend whose kid just turned 4, and I gave them Sets 1-3 as a gift. I am forever going to be grateful to bob books for teaching my kids to read. The books gently introduced diff sounds and gradually moved to the more complex stuff. I have 2 girls, who are now 5 & 8. Both started reading their 1st bob book when they were 3.5 yrs old, and took 1.5 years to from from Set 1 Book 1 to Set 5's last book "The King".
They provided extra reading for her. These were a good supplement to my daughter's Kindergarten readers.
She will begin school in a year and a half and is already reading at a K.3 level. We have paired them with Scholastic Sight Word Readers and her reading has really taken off. I love all of the Bob Book sets. They have helped my daughter learn to read.
The books are short but do help teach them to read and reinforce what they have learned so far. My 5 year old reads these to my 2 year old, they both love them.
